Bowen Therapy is a gentle soft-tissue technique that resets dysfunctional muscle tension patterns and supports the body in healing itself. The technique is applied over muscles, tendons and fascia at specific locations on the body in order to change the abnormal tension in tissues. Bowen Therapy affects the nervous system, and by creating a deep state of relaxation, can support the whole body in functioning more optimally and supports the bodies self-healing abilities.
Bowenwork was developed in Geelong, Australia by the late Tom Bowen in the 1950s and 1960s. Ozzie Rentsch, one of Tom's students took Tom's work to the world in the 1980s and it is now practiced in over thirty countries.
A typical session lasts about 45 minutes to an hour, and is done with the client lying or sitting.
Clients are asked to wear light, loose clothing so that the practitioner can palpate the muscles and tissues without the client having to undress in most cases.
It is recommended to schedule 2-3 sessions one week apart for optimal results.
You may notice reduced pain, greater range of motion and a sense of relaxation and well-being after a session.
